Black spot funding

The intersection of Champion Drive and Tonkin Highway is notoriously dangerous.  I welcome the $480,000 Black Spot Funding to make it safer for local motorists.

Many of the  68 accidents, including one fatality, at this black spot between January 2005 and December 2009 could have been avoided had the Member for Armadale , Alannah MacTiernan,  as Minister for Transport not  ignored recommendations to include the Champion Drive traffic signals as part of the original Tonkin Highway project.   Under her watch, they were deleted in what I can only call a very short sighted cost cutting measure.

Despite seeing the mounting crash statistics,  as Transport Minister she did nothing.  One can’t help but be a little cynical about her sudden interest in  getting funding for this local road improvements from Canberra now that she is the Labor candidate for Canning.  The question needs to be asked:  Why did she prevent those lights being installed when the highway was built?
