What I Believe PDF Print E-mail

Let me make it clear at the outset that I am NOT a one issue, or party hack politician. I intend to represent an entire electorate and not just an interest group. As such, I must have many "I Believe" statements if I am to be able to truly represent the people of Southern River. You need to know that I can do the job, and that I believe in the same things that you do. There are a few too many career politicans, and not enough people like me that realy care for the people in our community.

I believe that people matter most. I believe life is primarily about our relationships.

I believe in honesty and integrity in both private and public life.

I believe that while our upbringing or life circumstances can make things more difficult, they are never an excuse for doing wrong.

I believe governments should encourage personal and social responsibility, and not make people dependent on hand outs.

I believe a government’s role is to give people a hand up and not a hand-out.

I believe that government should be accountable to the people and not the people to the government.

I believe that the family is the foundation of our society, and that legislation and government policies should strengthen families, not weaken them.

I believe Western Australia is one of the greatest places to live and raise a family on this planet.

I believe no one should have to come home from work to clean graffiti off their fences, nor be kept awake by hoons through the night

I believe in freedom of speech – and that the political correctness agenda foisted upon us by the chattering classes needs to be rolled back.

I believe every group in society has the right to be heard, but in the end the majority view must prevail, and governments should not pander to vocal minority groups.

I believe our parliamentary representatives are elected to represent the electors, not unions or big business.

I believe that government spending should be determined by what a community needs rather than by how they vote.

I believe that your family knows how to spend your money better than the government does.

I believe that the environment is critically important, and that we should aim to leave the world in a better shape for the next generation.

I believe our approach to environmental issues needs to be grounded in a rational, scientific approach, and not on emotive, knee jerk responses

I believe that my expertise as an agricultural scientist and a long term community worker allows me to bring both a sharp analytical mind and a compassionate spirit to the work of government.

I believe in free enterprise, but not unbridled capitalism. The role of government is to keep the market honest and to protect the little people from unscrupulous operators.

I believe we need a state government with a pro-growth, pro-Western Australia agenda.

I believe government has a responsibility to secure our energy supplies.

I believe that governments should be visionary in providing quality infra structure (roads, ports, railways, energy supplies etc) to allow communities and industries to develop to their full potential.

I believe West Australia’s great mineral wealth is being squandered by the current government, and that the benefits of the boom are not reaching many in our community.

I believe that the current level of stamp duty on the purchase of an owner occupied home is an iniquitous tax – around $20,000 for a family, irrespective of income.

I believe that as people living in the highest taxed state in Australia there is no excuse for the current underfunding of police, education, hospitals and disability services.

I believe that our senior citizens deserve better than the current long waiting lists for elective surgery.

I believe that those looking after family members with disabilities deserve far more support and recognition

I believe two hours is too long for stretched police services to respond to a house break-in or an assault. We need more police-and we need them NOW.

I believe that prevention of graffiti is better than the cure and that anti-social behaviour should not be tolerated.

I believe those responsible for graffiti, car theft, breaking and entering and vandalism should be made to pay for the damage they cause.

I believe many sentences given for serious crimes in Western Australia are way below what is fair and just.

I believe that a person in this state should be treated as an individual and not as a member of a specific race or interest group.

I believe the road and public transport situation in Canning Vale/Southern River is unacceptable.

I believe migrants with similar value systems to our own are making an immeasurable contribution to our state and should be commended for how they are integrating into Australian society.

I believe that as Australians we owe a great debt of gratitude to the servicemen who gave everything for our freedom and that their sacrifices should never be forgotten.
